A Winters Farmers Market

 Dear Readers,

I hope this blog finds you well as we come to the close of the festive season. I hope you have found some rest and time to spend with loved ones. During this Christmas I have been busy photographing, like I said I would be, and getting my blog prepared for lots of posting. I will feed this throughout January, well that was the plan anyway. I wanted to share this post as soon as possible with you, I am very proud of my recent setup.

This is my first proper set up since I started collecting again. It took me a while to get all the right pieces together to make it look realistic. I bought some felt, blue fabric and lichen to make it look lifelike. I also made some trees, which really make the scene come together. I did them when I was finishing other projects so it felt like an age to get everything together. But it’s very nice to see it all come to fruition.

So here goes...

On a crisp Wednesday morning, the centre of Evergreen Hollow is a hub of activity. Lots of the villagers are out to get their shopping and enjoy their local shops. Wednesdays are special because Evergreen farm hosts its farmers market. Lots of villagers head out into the cold to get their fresh produce for the week and see what specials the farmers have rustled up.

One busy spot is the Blackcurrant Cafe, which has lots of people visit for a comforting lunch and their freshly brewed coffee. Today, lots of them are catching up as Christmas has just passed.

After having some breakfast at the cafe, Ginny is admiring the small pond that is in the town centre. She is mesmerised by the eater and the small fish that are swimming about. She loves water. Her mother, Holly, is keeping a close eye on her though. Ginny has a tendency to dip her toes in after a while, an impulse her mother is yet to quell in her.

The other Golightly family members are also there but enjoying the pond in a slightly different way. They are enjoying it as any cat would, catching fish. Fred told his son that he used to be catch fish with just a stick when he was a kitten. Therefore, Toby had to try it himself. His new friend, Sage, has come to join in as well. Not that he particularly likes fish but it did look quite fun to him.

The rest of Sage’s family are also having a wander round the village. His dad, Reed Appeldoorn, has just met Ian. Reed is a gardener and got rather excited when Ian mentioned his orchard. He is now even more pleased to know that this is what Ian runs for a living, he is the village Orchard farmer. Ian is busy this time of year, he has to get things prepped for the next season. Ian asks if Reed would be willing to work for him, around his other work, because Reed is a professional gardener! There is nothing that rabbit doesn’t know about plants. Reed gladly accepts the work, Ian seems to have an in-depth knowledge about orchards and Reed is keen to see what he is growing.

Inside the Cafe the Maple cat family are enjoying some food. Theodore has chosen the buttermilk pancakes with berries and his wife, Georgina, is enjoying a sundae. It seems they have brought their little ones with them to enjoy the food.
Little Howard is very interested in what they are having, his Mum always shares with him.
Also enjoying a late breakfast is the Walnut squirrel family. Cedric is here with his wife and their younger children.
The little ones love the cafe, it gives them somewhere new to explore. What’s even better is that James will give them spoons and pots so they can help run the Cafe.
Here is one of the trees that I made. I made it with air dry clay and lichen on the top. I think they turned out pretty good. I recently bought an apple tree off amazon but was not pleased with the quality. I like these trees because they look like they are evergreen, which is part of the lore of my village.
Just around from the cafe is the Flotteur family. Maurice and his wife Amora are out on a stroll with Coral. You don’t see them so much this time of year, they find it too cold.

Next along the street is a rather adorable moment between Maurice and Myriam. Maurice, forever the romantic, loves gift giving. Today he picked these flowers for her.
As you can see, Myriam is delighted.

Next along the street is a new building that I have been working on!
Meet the Brambles’ new bakery! You may remember that on one of my first few posts I showed you Lavender cottage. Well, they have since moved out of that house; they sold it to the Brightfield Goats. Now they are renovating a cottage above the bakery (for now on my wish list for them).
Outside, the Buckley deers are enjoying some drinks. Daniel Buckley is the new PE teacher at Berry Grove school. But no PE today, he is enjoying some time out of the house with his wife and his son. It seems he is toying with the idea of an iced bun though!
Phoebe Dearly is leaving the bakery with her son Carl. Forever dressed in style, he is hoping he can go play at the park before he has to go home.
The Wisteria family are also here for some food. Little Violeta has got to a seat before her sister, which I am sure will cause an argument. Violeta is excited to start at pre school soon, she even received a new backpack to take her water bottle and snack in.
Cassius is ordering from the handy window where Ruth can get him what he needs. Ruth enjoys running the small cafe as well as the bakery, plus the smell from her husbands baking is divine.
Iris was surprised with a new dress for Christmas by her husband. The very talented Phoebe made it by commission. You can see her spotting her handy work in the background.
The Alpine family are also out for a walk, or well a trek. The family live for the colder weather and the children love getting their skidoo and skis out. Although skiing on a flat surface must be hard. I think poor Gerald is likely pushing her along.
Gerald and Hope love the cold weather and love sharing their treks with their children.
Lulu and Lumi think it is good fun too.
Even if you are waiting for a push because she wanted to ski on a flat surface.
Next along is the main attraction, the village farmers market. This is run by Evergreen farm which comprises the Fieldings, Cottontails and the BlackBerrys. The farmers bring their produce and their wives bring along the baked goods. This week it seems a vegetable stew is available as well as cookies to buy. Bridget likes to ensure everything is running smoothly before running some errands herself.
Fred is indignant that he does not want to be held by his mother.
Daniel rather wishes that he was helping at the market but he needs to choose some fabric for a new shirt.
The Cottontail siblings are helping out. When their dad asked for some help, Gromwell didn’t realise it would be pushing large gourds to the village hall in a wheel barrow.
Lloyd is seeing what is available today, his wife is rather partial to a cookie so he thinks he might get her a sweet treat.
On the inside of the building is Natalie Marlowe and her triplets. They are called Lilac, Lavender and Basil and recently received some new dress up clothes. They refused to leave the house without wearing them so they are looking very over dressed for a walk into town. I think they look adorable though.
Inside, Darcy is making sure all his produce is looking its best. Available today are lots of mushrooms, cauliflower, lettuces and carrots. Although the mug of coffee belongs to him. He has to get up very early to prepare for the market.
He even made some jams earlier in the year which he is hoping will be a hit.

Here you can see their lovely produce on show, even with tea and coffee!
Next to the market is a small play park. There are plenty around Evergreen Hollow and this one is being enjoyed by the Furbanks and the Blanche’s.
Little Fay is going down the slide while her brother plays in the sand. ‘I will be finding sand in my house for days’ sighed Emma.
Living in the centre of town is the Beaman Cat family. Larry is in charge of the village finances and sits on Evergreen Council with the Mayor, Peter Timbertop. With such an important job comes a nice house in the town centre. Today, it seems they have some guests.
Meadow Appeldoorn has come to see Geraldine. Their daughters are good friends and Clover loves Mrs Beaman’s homemade flapjack.

Upstairs, the family are enjoying the spectacle of the town. Little Helly is partial to watching the world go by with her brother, Boris likes being so high up. Larry has popped out to ensure that no silly business is being had. His daughter and son tend to get up to mischief. Like last week, a plant pot magically jumped up and off the balcony. Apparently, that was what happened anyway, according to Boris.

I hope you have enjoyed this post, I have lots more planned that will come out over the coming weeks. In this post you can see lots of my new figures, and some very old, which I thought was a nice way to introduce them.

I am especially grateful for my family and partner for all my lovely sylvanian gifts ❤️

I hope you have a spectacular new year!

Big hugs!
Helly
