Highfield's Farmhouse

Hello!

I am beyond happy to share my newest purchase and project with you. It has taken some months to complete this as the house is quite large but I enjoyed every step. I really have gained some new skills through renovating my houses and this project shows a lot of them coming together.

A few months back it was my birthday and I kept looking at this house online. It goes for quite a lot of money and I wanted one that did't break the bank but also had to door at the front. I wasn't too worried about the stairs or ladder. Then one day I saw this one and I was extremely lucky to find it with both parts of the door, the stairs, ladder and the chimney! The chimney often comes detached as does the door so I was lucky to find this one.

The house is of course, highfield's farm. A lovely old farmhouse that looks very British.

It's such a lovely house and I can't believe that it's sat on my desk most days. I believe it was discontinued when Flair lost its ownership of the brand. So very few are out there and not that many that are in good condition.

The one thing this house lacks is some detail though. One side is just brown and the other is white. It just looks so fake compared to the front. So I decided to paint both sides grey, the windows a different shade too. Then I used a lighter grey and brown to create an aged effect. I then went to town on the roof. I really wanted it to look old, like it was build in the 18th century and had housed many generations of the family that live here.
I also painted the few roof tiles that are to the side of the house. I then used a different shade of red to create a life like look.

I am over the moon with the final look and I think it does look old. I kept the front mostly the same as it didn't need that much amendments.
Now the inside! This home is large so we have 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a kitchen with an island in the centre. A fully functional farm house!
The first room you enter is the living room. The house has a build in fireplace with working lights that really create that snuggly atmosphere. I chose two armchairs to create an intimate space for two people to relax after a long day. There is also a buggy in the background for the newest addition to the family.

Next along is the kitchen, I love the dividing wood between the areas, the beams are also beautiful.
The wallpaper choice was mostly to get some light into the room. I also thought I'd choose something dated to make it look like the house was decorated some time ago. I like to think the father in this house refuses to change the wallpaper and his poor wife is stuck with it.
I bought the new kitchen island set because I wanted the stand mixer for this house. I painted it as the colours were wrong for me. I think this shows how ornate it really is. Plus it's very practical for storage.
Then at the back is the kitchen corner unit with a fridge. I love this set, it looks so vintage. Plus the plant makes this space complete for me.
Now to the first floor which has two bedrooms and a bathroom.
This parent's room is very neat, you can tell the mother likes her house just so. My favourite part of the room is dressing table. This table has drawers with a brush and comb. It has lotion and perfume on the top as well as some powder. I think the wardrobe creates a divider between the rooms too.
Next is the brother's room which is created by the divider in the bathroom. It's only a tiny space but it's his own room which is quite a rarity in sylvanian houses.
Next is the bathroom which I just love. It's the perfect place to enjoy after a long day on Evergreen farm. I love the radiator to warm the towels at the side. Plus the powder for a baby after bath time.
Next is the girl's bedroom. This was originally going to be the bathroom but the sloped roof made it hard to make things look right. Now it's the girl's room which I thought was better than a girl and boy sharing. I adore the crib in the corner and the balloons on the wall. Clearly there is a keen reader in this room with all those books.
So who lives here...
The Cottontail Rabbits! I have seen on a few blogs (linked at the bottom) who have used the father, Aaron, as some form of farmer or carpenter. When I was deciding who would farm next to Darcy Fielding Aaron came into mind with his lovely dungarees and his checks. Sorrel is a hard working farmer's wife who loves baking and mending clothes for her family. Despite what she calls 'the ugliest wallpaper in the town' in their kitchen, she loves the house and keeps in very clean. Willow is a keen reader and loves having a girly room with her little sister. Originally she was meant to share with Gromwell who is very untidy. Gromwell is very untidy, he just pretends that he isn't. He is quick to help his father at any point on the farm and tends to forget about his school work. He believes that his dad is the real teacher. Lastly, baby Angelica is just that, an angel. She was born 12 months ago and completes this perfect family.

I hope you liked this entry.
Here are the blogs that I have based Aaron on. I love these blogs!

Best wishes,
Helly :)
